Must-Read 7 Blog Links from Pet News and Views

By Michele C. Hollow of Pet News and Views

Thanks Carol Bryant, of Fido Friendly, for tagging me to post my favorite 7 Blog Links. These posts stand out because they focus on people who make the world a better place. I’m fortunate for the opportunity to tell their stories. Here are some of my favorites:

Most Beautiful Post
From Service Dog to Surfing Dog really tugged at my heart. After watching a video about a service dog named Ricochet, whom I have written about several times in this blog, I interviewed Ricochet’s trainer, Judy Fridono. Judy and Ricochet are my heroes. They have helped so many people and I applaud them.

Feed Shelter Cats and Dogs garnered 533 comments from readers who shared stories about their rescued pets. This was a contest that I hosted with Iams. For each comment a reader left about their rescued pet, Iams donated 25 bowls of food to shelters across the country. Iams was so pleased with the response that they doubled the donations to 50 bowls of food per comment. The result was 26,650 bowls of food were donated to animal shelters.

Most Controversial Post
Outdoor Cats or Wildlife Conservation: Pick One had me going back and forth on whether I should post a point of view that is so totally opposite from mine. For this post, I interviewed The Wildlife Society. When it comes to feral cats, I believe in TNR (Trap Neuter Return).

Most Helpful Post
Most recently, I decided to offer my readers a Free Discount Drug Card for Pets and their Humans. So many of my readers have written to me about the high cost of pet care, and I agree that it can get out of hand. So, I found out about these free prescription cards. If your pet needs meds, you get a prescription from your veterinarian, take it to the pharmacy with this discount card, and you can save up to 55% off generics and up to 15% off name brand meds.

Hospitality Industry Recycles to Help Animal Shelters
helps so many people on so many levels. Hotels throw out sheets, towels, toiletries, etc. Animal shelters are in desperate need of these items. This program was created so local shelters can pick up unwanted items from hotels. It’s free to animal shelters, and these items don’t wind up in landfills.

I really loved the post about Destiny, an 11-year old with epilepsy, and her service dog Salsa. When I interviewed her and her mom and listened to stories about how Salsa could detect a seizure before it would occur, I got chills. Thanks to Salsa, Destiny has cut back on meds. It’s a heartwarming story.

Post that Surprised Me
I was shocked when I received several replies to a Help A Reporter Out query from people who drive with pets on their laps. They were so proud of their recklessness.

Part of this challenge is to list 5 blogs that I follow. While there are so many wonderful blogs, these are a few of my favorites:

Animal Law Coalition

Dog Life Training

The Daily Tail

Rescue Me: Tails of Pet Rescue

Living the Greyt Life
